WELLNESS & NEWS Nov/Dec 11

Hi

Christmas is not far away and for most of us time speeds up and we get busy sorting out the various needs, before we go into the long waited break and holidays. Times like this can often become stressful. In this newsletter we are focused exactly on this, the effects of stress on body, soul and mind ........ Have a look at the article.

Brook and myself spent a good portion of last week differently than most weeks, as we paricipated in an artists retreat. We had a great time sharing an outdoor events park with fellow artists of various disciplines. What a buzz to do things that we normally don't do and getting inspired and play, design and create  ...... using other parts of our brains.
Good fun, challengin at times and rewarding - a wide range of disciplines were on the agenda: contemporary dance, clowning, ceramic art, painting, sculpting, video art etc

This month we have several great deals as Christmas presents on, Watch out for the promotions that will come through in the next 3 weeks, Each week we run a different one .......
be ready to treat your family with our great deals!
Wishing you a great Christmas, a happy New Year and a marvellous holiday

cheers and best regards
Brook & Joseph

The China Study
In the 21 st century ionised water is regarded as the healthiest water.
What makes it so exceptional?
Drinking alkaline water with antioxidants has a daily effect on detox, regeneration of oxygen levels in the blood and cellular fluids and reduction of free radicals. The bodies' acidity is constantly balanced and eleminated. If you don't know it so far,
ACIDITY in the body is a major culprit for dis-ease and illness!
The people/nations in the world who live according to a more alkaline diet, more carbohydrates/fibre, less fat, less cows milk, less meat, more fresh produce are among the healthiest in the world. Studies have been done on exactly this.  The Book: "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell is the most comprehensive study of nutrition ever conducted. It shows startling implications relating to diet, weight loss, and long term health.
Japan and Korea are big in alkaline water.
They are amongst the nations with the lowest rates for breast cancer, diabetes1, heart conditions, obesity, and have a high life expectancy. Japanese and Korean people appreciate a predominantly alkaline diet.

Coincidence or reason ? !
We believe that it is not rocket science how to look after our bodies.
>> cllick to enlarge statistics However reality shows that the majority of the NZ population don't know really how to look after their body! Recent antioxidant testing at the Auckland Home Show, revealed that 70% of the people tested showed poor to weak cellular health. (The testing was conducted with a high Tec antioxidant Scanner from international company Pharmanex/NUskin).
Statistically New Zealanders are high up for breast cancer 5th highest in the world, cancer 8th highest, heart disease 6th highest, obesity 7th highest ....

Testimonial of the month:

Hi Brook and Joseph,          Nov   2011

For the last 30 years I have experienced T.I.A. 's (mini strokes). I have had prescribed medication and dietary supplements and some years were worse than others, but the strokes were relatively consistent. After reading some internet literature about ionizers and their benefits I made enquiries. I ended up purchasing an EOS Platinum Ionizer and had it professionally installed. I have drunk ionized water daily for 14 months and in all that time I have not had any black outs. The only change in my life living pattern (diet and food intake relatively consistent) has been the ionized water which is really good cause to suggest the ionized water has helped this symptom. And the water tastes great!!!! We wouldn't be without it. Many thanks

Norman Clark

Stress and More StresS

It is well worth being aware of what creates stress in our body ........ as it significantly influences our body's pH!
Whilst most of us appreciate that regular attention and maintenance of our car results in happier motoring, staying on the road longer and costing us less, few of us give the same kind of attention to maintaining ourselves.
Recently I’ve been putting background information together on the topic of personal sustainability. The picture is at the same time quite simple and complex. No single thing in isolation keeps us healthy, it is a series of choices and actions that we make that determines that.

One of the significant factors undermining our ability to maintain ourselves as happy and healthy is stress. Research first publicly acknowledged stress in the 1950’s, since when much has uncovered. Modern neuroscience is giving an increasingly detailed and profound understanding as to what happens to us as a result of stress and the things that we can do that effectively alleviate it.

Stress comes in all sorts of shapes and sized, our brains are equipped to alert us to the slightest threat to our survival. Experiences, once identified as stressful can be reactivated simply by a similar environment even if they do not actually contain stressing factors in the present.
>> click for larger image
Our stress response initially heightens our awareness and responsiveness and once the perceived threat is reduced or effectively eliminated, mechanisms in the body and brain counter the stress response and return the body to equilibrium and greater ease. If the perceived threat remains, the alarm/stress response continues, resulting in reduced capacity to think clearly and if prolonged over time can result in an inability to cope, with resulting burnout.

The brain is only 1/50th of our body weight but it uses 20% of all the oxygen in the blood.
Hand in hand with our challenging lives goes our choices as to how we support ourselves, our choices of lifestyle. Although the brain is only 1/50th of our body weight the brain uses 20% of all the oxygen in the blood, further more it is suggested that the brain consists of anything between 70-85% water. It is the control center for our thoughts, emotions, attitudes and actions.
Clearly the health of our brain is essential to a happy life and, giving proper consideration to the figures above, it becomes obvious that  the brain thrives on oxygen and good water, a lack of either creating its own form of stress. The brain is understood to actually shrink when it dehydrates, with consequent difficulty thinking, increasing the chance to feel stressed by challenges in our lives.
It is 70-85%water.
So there are things that we can do to help our brains and bodies be happy and healthy. While most of us likely already know what they are, to keep painting a picture as to how all the small things we do builds a life that supports us to stay well, is worth repeating until we recognize that we can actually make a difference.

Simply put the list of things to pay attention to starts to look surprisingly similar whether we are looking into brain health, stress or heart disease. We need to self-care.

The plan starts by eating well to be nourished and energetic, and moves to drinking the best possible water to be adequately hydrated, and maintain effective cellular function and good elimination. We need to exercise regularly, keeping the blood flowing and oxygenated, and the body flexible and light.
Ionised water relaxes our cells, counters acidity generating a calm body; aggressive outbursts and stress reduce.
We do well to continue to learn new things that exercise our brain. (Research shows that people who are well hydrated and stimulate their brains by continuing to challenge them have a 35–40% less risk of manifesting Alzheimer’s disease.)

There is a 35–40% less risk of manifesting Alzheimer’s disease.

We benefit from managing stress and fostering peacefulness in our emotions, here yoga and meditation have been shown to be particularly beneficial. We need to talk to ourselves in a friendly way, which spills over into the ability to communicate effectively with others and we do well laugh as often as possible.

There is of course a lot more detail possible in each of these areas, this is where the picture can become more complex, however applying ourselves to our own health and well being can produce a lot of benefit and consequent happiness, so is well worth the effort.
