What is so unique about Water Ionizers?

A water ionizer/alkalser is much more than just a filter. Of course it filters out contaminants and purifies the water. However it gives us a lot more, in particular it offers four great qualties to our body:

• antioxidants for detoxifying and rejuvenating body tissues, fatty tissues and cells,
• high alkalinity for de acidifying the body,  
• smaller water clusters to hydrate the body much deeper, and
• ionic, electrically charged minerals, for much better absorption of minerals and effective delivery to the vital organs

The water is delicious, it tastes soft and is therefore easy to drink.  A nice side effect is that we drink naturally more water as well.

With that the body improves in health, we feel well, we sleep well, we perform better, we increase in our vitality. Our complexion improves, skin becomes softer, hair healthier, we look better. It reduces pain, lowers high blood pressure, balances colesterol, reliefs allergies and arthritis, and it offers many more posiitive effects for recovery, healing and rejuvenation.

All this is based on ionised water being so beneficial to the body's functioning, and as we are about 70-80% water depending on our life stage, the body thrives on water that assists its functioning. It is not a miracle water, althoug it offers smaller and bigger wonders ..... but really (provided we drink plenty of this water) it simply matches the body's needs well and the body thrives on it.

Additional Benefits?

Alkaline water ionizers improve the taste of food beyond that of normal filtered water. It very often allows users to modify their diet naturally and without stress as the user ‘s basic pH balance changes. Weight loss is a common free bonus of drinking alkaline ionized water.

Users commonly report positive health changes, such as more energy, increased level of endurance, better concentration and focus, better hydration, showing skin and hair being softer, and the complexion exceptionally good. It offers relief from pain, such as mussel and back pain, and arthritic pain.

Athletes enjoy a marked increase of endurance, together with a majorly reduced chance of lactic acid build up, as the body gets supplied with ionic alkaline minerals through the drinking water.

The byproduct acid astringent water is beneficial for skin complaints, may be used as a hair rinse, eye-wash, gargle, and for mild antibacterial cleansing. Users have also reported excellent results for Tinea and eczema.

Is this a new product?

Water ionizers are not a new product. They have been developed in Japan in the 1960ies, and have been around in Korea almost as long. In the US they have been present since the 1990ies, and today they are present all over the world, such as Europe, South Africa, China, Russia, India, Malaysia, ....... Australia, and NZ.

Why is it expensive?

Water ionizers most expensive part is the electrolytic plates made out of platinum and titanium and then there is the electronics for optimal functioning. A good water ionizer will last many years. Once established, the actual running of the ionizer is relatively cheap. Compared to bottled water solutions, it is both economical and environmentally friendly.  We estimate that a KYK or an EOS ionizer will last 15 years + depending on how it is looked after. The running cost of ionised water is approx NZ $ 4-6 cents/liter depending on the model of the ionizer.

What is the magic in a Water Ionizer?

The ‘magic' is really a simple process called electrolysis, or ionization. Ionized water has four qualities that are great for the body's health: plenty of Antioxidants, Alkalinity, excellent Hydration, continuous detoxification

A custom designed motherboard controls all aspects of the process of ionization, including flow rate, water temperature, and a range of  customizable pH output settings.

Will my Ionizer fit my kitchen tap?

IONZA offers several water ionizers for different installation options. The KYK and the EOS ionizers are not supported for the direct connection to a multi temperature tap. The water ionizer needs to be securely connected to the cold water source only. Any chance to accidently turn on the hot water tap and run hot water through the unit is therefore eliminated. IONZA requires the customer to get the Water ionizer installed by a plumber and for it to be connected directly to a cold water supply. The installling plumber will need to sign the warranty installation confirmation. This is to ensure the safe running of your valuable appliance.

We do offer a budget model, the HOmay Chi, which is designed to be connected to the kitchen tap, and therefore offers also more portable features.

Do I need any special fittings?

This depends on the type of installation that you want to have.

Can it go under my bench?

Yes it can. There is a necessity to provide a drain for the acid water to flow to. You may wish to collect this water or simply connect it to a drain. Ionza offers tap controlled under sink ionizers. Please go to products/water ionizers on our website for more information.

Can I fit it to my existing filter?

You can connect it to most prefilters. Please check with us regarding your situation.

What can I use the acid water for?

The acid water is a ‘free' bonus. It is excellent for all manner of skin complaints. It can be used as an astringent face wash. it's excellent for hair care, acne, sores, bench top sterilization, general cleaning and more. We also offer the acidic drain water to our house plants, and they thrive on it.......

Why does it ‘split' the water into acid and alkaline?

The ‘splitting' of the H2O (water) is the proof that the Ionizer does what it says it does. The process of splitting causes the following:

Approximately 70% of the H20 (water) input is molecularly rearranged into OH-, or alkaline, negatively charged water.
Approximately 30% of the input H2O is molecularly rearranged into HO, or acidic water.

Ionized water from water ionizers is light water. It has a smaller molecular cluster and you can drink it all day hydrating the body really effectively.
Ordinary water does not penetrate your cells like alkaline, ionised water does. This is why ionised water which is rich in antioxidants is able to rid our bodies of acid wastes in the cells. It can go where ordinary water cannot, and it has the capacity to neutralise free radicals, and to balance acidity in the body.

How do I know if I have acidosis or an acid-overloaded system?

Many people do. The pace of life, the state of our foods, the concentration of acid-producing items in our diet means that the majority of people are overloaded. You might know individuals who seem to be calm all the time, there's a very good chance that he or she isn't acid overloaded.

You can test your urine/ saliva to give you some idea of your acidity. To achieve a more accurate reading, it needs several readings over the course of several days to assert the body pH. Bearing in mind, that our body is always attempting to balance the acid and alkaline levels, therefore it might  be getting rid of a lot of acid at the time of the test.

Why does the water ionizers filter leave some minerals in and not others?

The EOS and KYK Genesis has 2 filters. Filter 1 has an Antibiotic one-side filter, Zeomic, Noxious odour calcium, Active Carbon with silver added, Sediment filter.  Filter 2 has an Antibiotic one-side filter, Granular activated carbon, Active carbon (with silver added).

It filters to 0.1 microns, removing bacteria, contaminants and even viruses. It does not filter out minerals that are in solution because they won't stick to the carbon. Minerals that are not in solution will be filtered out.

What about hard water?

Hard water may require a pre-filter. Call us.

How do I change the filter?

Open the back door of the filter, unplug the filter chip wire (sensor for filter counter).Then turn the filter counter clockwise, for about half a turn. Then pull it out of the socket.

Place the new filter so the riders on the bottom fit into the socket. Then push it down into the socket, and turn it clockwise for about half a turn. Connect the filter chip wire again.
When done, run the system for a few minutes - about 5-7 liters to clear away any loose charcoal.

Is the Ionizing Water Filter just another new, unproved health gadget?

Water ionizers have been in use worldwide for more than 20 years. The same concept has been used for home and industrial applications. In Korea, KYK appliances have been approved by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Hundreds of thousands are already in use in Korea and Japan. In Japan about every 8th household has got a water ionizer. It both countries - Japan and Korea it is present in numerous hospitals.

There has been intensive research done internationally for many years. To start with universities in Japan have been offering great data on many aspects of the ionized water. Since then the research has expanded into all sorts of other countries, and data is available today showing interesting findings on general health benefits, combatting disease such as cancer or diabetes, on animal rearing, applications in the milk industry, agriculture, horti culture or simply about extending shelf life of produce........

Why did it take so long to introduce water ionizers to some countries?

KYK Water Science Company made a decision to concentrate its design and marketing efforts in its domestic area before moving internationally. In the last few years KYK has started to market internationally in Japan, USA, Great Britain and now New Zealand and Australia.

What are some of the more harmful organisms and chemicals removed from water by the filters of a Water Ionizer (of course also dependent on the model and the stages of filtration)?

Chlorine, Trihalomethanes, Suspended solids, Cryptosporidium, Parasites (cysts), Waterborne flu virus E-coli, Suspended solids, Organic compounds, Bacteria and Radioactive particulates.

What maintenance do water ionizers require?

The EOS and  KYK 25000 have a fully automatic cleaning cycle, that kicks in after every time ionized water was produced. It pays to test the ionizer every 3 months for its functioning. Fill maybe 20ml of ionized water pH9.5 into a glass, add 4 drops of testing liquid to it, and check the colour response. It needs to be purple. If it is not, then it pays to clean the machine manually: Dial pH 4 or pH 3 if available and run it for about 10 liters to clear the electrolytic plates from scale/mineral deposits. After that test again. If it still does not show up purple, it might be appropriate to clean for another 10 liters. If it stiil prolongs and does not free up the scaling through this cleaning method, then the ionizer needs to be cleaned with a 'cleaning cartridge', which offers lemon acid into the ionization chamber. Filter replacements:The filters need to be replaced every so ofter. Different models have different filter life spans. The EOS/KYK and Homay filters show its life on the display of the ionizer with a filter counter. Once a filter comes to the end of its life, the ionizer offers an alert, e.g. the KYK and EOS show it in the display at 70 liters remaining filter life, to remind that it will need replacing soon.....

How can an Ionizer treat skin rashes, acne or eczema?

Acid water kills bacteria and keeps our skin clean naturally.  It is also a natural astringent that will tighten as it cleans. It won't irritate skin like chemical based acne and rash treatments. Strong ionized acidic water at approx pH 3 has been used in hospitals in Korea and Japan successfully to treat eczema, psoriasis and athletes foot.

I know that I should eat and drink healthy foods, but I can't seem to keep to a consistent program. How will an ionising filter help me?

Drinking ionised water and your interest in health are a good match. By default, drinking the ionised alkaline water, you will get lots of antioxidants into your body thereby consistently detoxifying your body on a cellular level. Provided you drink the water you will hydrate your body well. Ionised water also assists you to increase alkalinity in the body helping to balance the effects of acidity accumulated from food, stress and other acidifying factors.

Is the ionized water easy to drinkg, - how easy is it absorbed in the body?

With the increased solubility of the water, it is more readily absorbed into your body. Your skin and hair becomes significantly softer. In addition, it can enhance the absorption of vitamins and minerals into your body. It also may help clear up some digestive problems.

Why is some water healthier than others?

People located in the Hunza Districts of Pakistan, Shin-Chan areas of China, the Caucasus in Azerbaijan, and in the Andes Mountains live longer with less health problems. There are other well known healing springs in the world, famous for its quality of water, such as Lourdes in France. Researchers find that these waters are high in alkalinity, have a negative ORP (oxidation reduction potential), potential caused by either intimate contact with certain native volcanic materials/minerals or by cascading over certain igneous rocks. Higher content of ionic minerals and smaller clustersize are the othe features of such springs. It is proven that water Ionizers are able to produce the same features to different levels, and similar effects.

Shouldn't we be drinking water as close to our blood pH as possible? Can we drink high alkaline water straight away and lots of it?

In a perfect world, we would have perfect pH input to our bodies. In reality most people's body pH is too acidic. This is due to our lifestyle, acidfying foods and drinks and also stress.

Too much acidity in the body is the underlying root of disease. Too much acidity gets stored in fatty tissues.

The pH of our blood is the supreme commandment of the body. All systems work to support its stability, most often to the detriment of ‘lower order' body systems such as pancreas, kidneys, bones, and pH buffering system.

It is most beneficial to offer the body qualities that ionised water offers, such as high alkaline water, as it assists the body to detox, and to eliminate acidity.

It pays to start drinking ionised water at a low level such as pH8.5 and drink this level for about 3 weeks. Then advance to pH 9 for another 3 weeks. After go to pH9.5 and drink this level as the general mature drinking level. For remiedies and boost of energy, you can drink pH 10, however only once you accustomed yourself to the mature drinking level.

According to our experience (Ionza directors), drinking pH9.5 alkaline water regularly is appropriate and beneficial to the body functioning on many levels. Drinking too much alkaline water?  As with anyting when we don't listen to our body and force things, it is possible to consume too much and override  the body, just like with alcohole. However this has never been an issue as far as we can tell. What we have experienced that clients have started drinking ionized water straight with pH9.5 and therefore experienced major detox and elimination. A gentle approach is appropriate.

Where are the Ionizers made?

All KYK and EOS ionizers are made in Korea. The Homay ionizers are made in China by one of the market leaders.

What kind of warranty do they have?

We offer a three year warranty on KYK 25000 and EOS Platinum water ionizers. We will repair or replace any part which, in our opinion, is defective. The water ionizer needs to be installed by a registered plumber and being connected to  the cold water pipe. The plumber needs to sign off the warranty card.

We offer a 1 year full warranty on the Homay Chi. Further we extend the warranty for parts for another 2 years, a total of 3years, but parts only.

This warranty is voided if the unit has been subjected to tampering, alteration, or improper use after delivery or has been repaired by anyone other than an authorized representative of KYK.

Will I get the high pH and ORP levels on any water supply?

Different water ionizers offer different power/different plate size and number of plates and therefore strength. However the ionisation is also significantly influenced by the mineral content of the source water.

KYK 25000 offers a range of pH from pH4 acidic to pH 10 alkaline - and ORP (=Oxidation reduction portential or in simple terms the antioxidant content) of up to -450mV.  The EOS Genesis Platinum offers a range of pH 11 alkaline water and pH 3 acidic water - and ORP of up to -600mV (depending on mineral content in the source water). With the EOS it is possible to get higher alkaline levels than pH11 and lower than pH 3 with ideal mineral content of the source water.

The performance in particular of the ORP is totally depending on mineral content of your source water. For example rainwater stored in a concret tank, or very soft water would not be able to achieve good ORP levels, maybe only -250mV on the highest setting of pH10 ionization level.

However a relatively high alkaline pH ofmaybe pH9.5 or even up to pH 10, is possible even in water with compromised mineral content. However if there are no minerals in the water, like with reverse osmosis or rainwater stored in plastic tanks, then ionisation cannot occur. In those situations the source water certainly needs to be re-minrealised. Ionza offers re-mineralisers for this purpose, which contains alkalising minerals such as dolomite ..... calcium and magnesium a.o.

How do I store ionised water?

We prefer to fill ionized water into glass bottles. We find that other materials such as stainless or certain plastics are inferior in storing and maintenance based on an assessment of clear or unaffected taste.......

When filllng the bottles, in order to maintain the antioxidants by enlarge it pays to fill the bottles right to the rim, avoid any air being left behind, then cap the bottle. (screw caps, or flip caps = the type like the old beer bottles with the wire lid.....) We collect wine or juice bottles with screw caps, then obtain a wine carrier bag from the supermarket, which carries 6 bottles at a time. This arrangement makes it fairly convenient to carry bottles.

When we store ionised water like that, the alkaline levels remain for a long time, the antioxidant will remain for several days, decreasing gradually, but still being present to a good level when the bottle gets opened. Once opened and air being present, the antioxidants will deteriorate very fast.

Will Ionza still be here in 5 years time?
